1. Enroll in Canvas 101
This self-paced course introduces you to the most commonly used tools in Canvas. Note: We recommend Mac users view the Canvas 101 course using Google Chrome.
2. Attend a Workshop
Live training opportunities are available, with several hands-on introductory workshops to prepare you on building your first course in Canvas. You will learn about Canvas communications tools, course organization, and creating assignments and quizzes. The training calendar will be updated as more opportunities become available.
If you were unable to attend a workshop, recordings will be made available on Illinois Media Space.
3. Explore Canvas
- If you want to start with a blank space to get familiar with Canvas tools and features, you can follow the instructions to request a new development space.
- If you taught a Compass course between Fall 2019 to Spring 2021, your content will be automatically copied to Canvas. Follow our automatic content import guide to start working with your course content in Canvas.
- If you want to explore Canvas using Compass course content older than Fall 2019, follow our manual content import guide.
